Welcome Candace Tan & Yang Yanling

Arranged in conjunction with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the internship targets promising maritime and non-maritime undergraduates in local Singaporean universities.  

After completing their initial orientation with various RightShip departments, Yanling and Candace will work with RightShip’s Customer Experience and Strategic Planning and Partnerships teams in Singapore, as well gaining experience in two of our major overseas offices in London and Melbourne. 

RightShip Chief Human Resources Officer, Purnima Singh, said: “I am delighted to welcome Candace and Yanling as interns to RightShip.   

“This is an exciting time to gain experience in the fascinating and diverse subjects encompassed in the global maritime industry. From safety to vetting, monitoring greenhouse gases to charting crew welfare, RightShip supports a wide range of customers to embark, or continue, on a sustainability journey. The programme aims to raise awareness of the importance of the maritime industry to Singapore and the global economy, as well as increase students’ understanding of the variety of maritime career opportunities available.  

“We hope that Candace and Yanling will gain a real understanding of the scope of the maritime industry and will see how their potential future careers could influence global progress.” 

More about the MPA GIA 

Established by the MPA in 2013, the GIA programme sponsors students for an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience and global exposure at reputable international maritime companies. Industry practitioners in these companies will mentor the students throughout the programme, providing a meaningful and all-rounded learning experience for the students.  

The programme aims to raise awareness of the importance of the maritime industry to Singapore and the global economy, as well as increase students’ understanding of the variety of maritime career opportunities available. 

The GIA recipients come from diverse disciplines, ranging from business, information systems, arts & social sciences, to law and maritime studies. They will take on roles in areas such as chartering and ship operations, shipbroking, data analytics, marine insurance and maritime law. The variety of roles also exemplifies the diversity of the career opportunities available in the sector.
