WaterLog joins RightShip’s Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program to advance data-led marine water management

WaterLog joins RightShip’s Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program to support safer, more efficient and data-led marine water management at sea.

Effective marine water management plays an important role in protecting vessel machinery, supporting efficient operations and maintaining safe conditions on board. Yet traditional processes often rely on periodic testing, manual records and fragmented data, which can make it harder to identify emerging issues or understand changes over time.

WaterLog Maritime Technologies is the newest organisation to join RightShip’s Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program. The company develops digital solutions designed to help maritime organisations turn water-quality information into practical operational insight.

Through the programme, WaterLog will be working closely with RightShip and the wider partner network to support a more proactive, transparent and data-led approach to marine water management.

Strengthening Visibility Across Marine Water Systems

Cooling water, boiler water and potable water systems are central to the safe and efficient operation of a vessel. When water chemistry moves outside appropriate operating parameters, it may contribute to corrosion, scale formation, reduced heat-transfer performance and equipment reliability risks.

Monitoring these systems effectively requires more than recording individual test results. Vessel operators and shore-based teams also need visibility of trends, relationships between parameters and deviations from defined operational or original equipment manufacturer reference ranges.

WaterLog brings a practical approach to this challenge. Its cloud-based Water Intelligence Platform analyses water-quality data collected through vessel operations and converts it into recommendations, early-warning insights and traceable digital records. This can help relevant personnel identify developing conditions earlier and make more informed decisions about water treatment and system performance.

By bringing information together in a structured form, the platform is also intended to reduce reliance on manual paperwork and provide clearer operational evidence for vessel and fleet management.

Turning Water-Quality Data into Operational Insight

WaterLog was developed from the seagoing and shore-based experience of maritime engineering professionals. This operational background informs the company’s focus on connecting water-quality data with the practical decisions made by vessel crews, technical managers and fleet operators.

The platform evaluates trends, parameter relationships and deviations rather than treating each test result in isolation. This approach can support earlier intervention when abnormal conditions or treatment inconsistencies emerge, while helping organisations maintain more complete and audit-ready records.

Appropriate water chemistry also contributes to effective heat transfer and the efficient operation of vessel systems. WaterLog aims to help operators examine how improved water management may support equipment protection, chemical-use optimisation and operational efficiency. Potential fuel and greenhouse gas savings will need to be assessed through vessel-level pilots and supported by traceable evidence.

This measured, evidence-led approach aligns with the wider maritime industry’s need to connect operational improvements with transparent and verifiable outcomes.

Supporting the Development of Continuous Monitoring

Alongside its existing platform, WaterLog is developing WaterTwin, an onboard sensor and automation ecosystem for cooling and boiler water systems. It is being designed to continuously monitor parameters such as pH, conductivity, hardness, nitrite, chloride and temperature, supporting more consistent data collection and timely operational insight.

The technology is currently undergoing development and laboratory validation, with onboard vessel testing planned for 2027. This work includes addressing the practical demands of shipboard environments, such as vessel vibration, temperature variation, chemical-resistant sample conditioning and bandwidth constraints. Testing under real operating conditions will be important in establishing the reliability of the technology and validating its potential to support safer, more efficient and environmentally responsible vessel operations.

Advancing the Industry’s Journey Toward Zero Harm

The Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program provides a platform for collaboration between RightShip and organisations whose solutions can support safer, cleaner and more responsible maritime operations. Partners contribute different capabilities and perspectives to a shared effort to reduce risk, improve transparency and strengthen outcomes for people, assets and the environment.

WaterLog’s focus supports these goals in several ways. Better visibility of water conditions may help operators identify factors associated with corrosion, scale, overheating or equipment reliability risks. More structured data can support timely operational decisions and strengthen governance through traceable digital records. Improved water treatment and heat-transfer performance may also contribute to more efficient vessel operations, subject to validation through operational deployment.

As part of the Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program, WaterLog joins a collaborative network working to address maritime challenges through practical solutions, shared learning and evidence-led improvement.

RightShip and WaterLog share a commitment to helping maritime stakeholders make more informed decisions and strengthen the management of critical onboard systems. Through collaboration, operational testing and continued development, the partnership will support a more proactive approach to marine water management—and contribute to the industry’s shared journey toward Zero Harm.
