How does RightShip's launch of PSC RiskIQ enable smarter port call preparations for ship owners and managers?

New AI-powered tool streamlines operations, reduces inspection risks, and unlocks efficiency

Preparing for PSC inspections has traditionally been time-consuming and labour-intensive, with an average of 15 port calls and 100 annual prep hours per vessel. Navigating the complexities of 2,000 diverse ports, vessels face the impact of 80,000 PSC inspections, 170,000 deficiencies, and 2,500, detentions annually which can have direct financial and reputational costs. The unpredictability of outcomes, fragmented data, lack of standardised guidance, and absence of benchmarking further complicate the process for shipowners and managers.

"We understand the difficulties shipowners and managers face with PSC inspections," said Saurabh Dasgupta, Chief Commercial Officer at RightShip. "Streamlining this process is crucial for proactive risk management, minimising disruptions, and enhancing efficiency. PSC RiskIQ empowers owners and managers with actionable insights, reducing risks, saving time, and saving costs while ensuring operational excellence."

PSC RiskIQ addresses these challenges by leveraging data and machine learning to help shipowners and managers identify potential inspection risks in advance. By analysing each vessel, each port, the tool helps categorise risks into low, medium or high. It identifies potential inspection and detention risks by analysing historical data and highlighting port-specific deficiency trends based on MOU targeted methodology.

The tool also equips ship managers with a robust Vessel Preparation Checklist, enhanced by RISQ and RightShip's data intelligence, enabling them to seamlessly transform insights into actionable risk mitigation strategies. Additionally, it benchmarks vessels against others, offering insights into areas for operational improvement and enhancing readiness for PSC inspections.

“At RightShip, we’ve listened closely to the challenges that shipowners and managers face,” said Marlon Grech, Chief Product and Technology Officer at RightShip. “We’ve used the power of technology and data to create a solution that truly helps. PSC RiskIQ gives ship managers the real-time insights they need to tackle risks, streamline their preparation, and ensure their vessels are ready for any port inspection.”

As part of the Early Adopters Program, trialing the tool, Captain Sachin Singh, Head of Global Dry Vetting and Incident Investigations, Fleet Management said, “Through PSC RiskIQ, RightShip has masterfully addressed the core issues that ship managers face while preparing vessels for upcoming port calls.”
