Puerto Buenos Aires boosts sustainable transportation

The only national port this week became the first in Latin America to join the RightShip program, which grants discounts of between 5% and 10% of the port fare to encourage the use of sustainable vessels along with care of the environment.

Since 2016, the administration of Puerto Buenos Aires has been focused on optimising its logistics and port processes, minimizing their impact on the environment. In 2017, it adhered to the Environmental Ship Index (ESI) programs and the Green Award, which promotes this system of bonuses for ships that care for the environment. Since its implementation, discounts have been granted for the amount of $ 5,634,685.87 from 230 landings.

In the same year, ISO 9001: 2015 and 14001: 2015 standards were certified, guaranteeing quality in the development of processes to reduce the impact on the environment. For this project, a team of permit holders and concessionaires began work to improve their environmental performance and raise awareness about the importance of separating waste, thus reducing the amount that is sent to landfill and allows the Cooperativa “El Ceibo” to recycle 1.6 tons of waste per month.

Puerto Buenos Aires is moving forward with the digitisation and simplification of many of its procedures that, until recently, were done in a person and on paper: the registration and re-registration of suppliers, the sending of cargo manifests, the consultation and downloading of Tender documents, as well as claims, can now be made online. In addition, it was the first company in the State to join the electronic documentation system, GDO, which allows for the digital processing of files. Over a 2-year period the GDO system produced a paper saving equivalent to 33 trees.

Currently, the Port Community System, a single port window that will allow the exchange of electronic foreign trade documents between logistics operators, port authorities and cargo agents is being tendered.

In addition to the bonus, RightShip provides an online predictive platform for ship vetting and inspections, helping its clients to manage maritime risk. This service is free of charge for the members of the OAS Inter-American Ports Commission, where the National Port Authorities of all OAS Member States meet for international collaboration; the construction of dialogue and commitments with the international community, and the development of competitive, safe, sustainable and inclusive ports that, since 2018, is exemplified by Puerto Buenos Aires.

El único puerto nacional se convirtió esta semana en el primero de Latinoamérica en adherirse al programa RightShip, que otorga descuentos de entre el 5 y el 10% de la tarifa para estimular el uso de buques sustentables y colaborar con el cuidado del medio ambiente.

Desde 2016, la administración de Puerto Buenos Aires se encuentra abocada a la optimización de sus procesos logísticos y portuarios, minimizando el impacto de los mismos en el medio ambiente.  Tal es así que, ya en 2017, adhirió a los programas Índice Medio Ambiental de Buques (ESI según sus siglas en inglés) y al Green Award, que impulsan este sistema de bonificaciones a los buques que cuidan el medio ambiente. Desde su implementación ya llevan otorgados descuentos por $ 5.634.685,87 en 230 recaladas.

En el mismo año, se certificaron las normas ISO 9001:2015 y 14001:2015 que garantizan la calidad en el desarrollo de los procesos y los cuidados para reducir el impacto en el medio ambiente. Para esto, se comenzó a trabajar en equipo junto a los permisionarios y concesionarios para mejorar su desempeño ambiental y concientizar acerca de la importancia de separar los residuos, disminuyendo así la cantidad que se envía a enterrar al relleno sanitario y permite que la Cooperativa “El Ceibo” recupere 1.6 toneladas de residuos por mes para reciclar.

Puerto Buenos Aires avanza con la digitalización y desburocratización de muchos de sus trámites que, hasta hace poco, se hacían de manera personal y en papel: la inscripción y re inscripción de proveedores, el envío de los manifiestos de carga, la consulta y descarga de pliegos de licitaciones, y los reclamos, ahora pueden realizarse de manera virtual. Además, fue la primera empresa del Estado en adherir al sistema GDO, un sistema documental electrónico que permite que la tramitación de los expedientes se realice digitalmente y gracias al cual, en 2 años, produjo un ahorro en papel equivalente a 33 árboles.

Actualmente está licitándose el Port Community System, una ventanilla única portuaria que permitirá intercambiar documentos electrónicos de comercio exterior entre los operadores logísticos, autoridades portuarias y agentes de carga.

Además de  la bonificación, la organización Rightship brinda una plataforma predictiva online de inspección de buques y, de esta manera,  ayuda a sus clientes a gestionar el riesgo marino.  Este servicio es libre de costos para los miembros de la Comisión Interamericana de Puertos de la OEA, donde se reúnen las Autoridades Portuarias Nacionales de todos los Estados Miembros de la OEA para la inserción internacional, la construcción de diálogo y compromisos con la comunidad internacional y el desarrollo de puertos competitivos, seguros, sostenibles e inclusivos y que, desde 2018, es presidida por Puerto Buenos Aires.
