A day of engaging dialogues and expert insights 

The day kicked off with an opening and introduction by Anthony Teo, Vice President & Head of Americas at RightShip, setting the stage for a day of productive discussions. 

 

Navigating vetting processes and inspections  

The first session, led by Oussama Darif, Head of Operations for the Americas, provided an overview of RightShip's vetting process and inspections. This session laid the groundwork for understanding the rigorous standards and procedures that underpin maritime safety and operational excellence. 

 

Risk management, compliance, and due diligence in dry bulk terminals  

A panel discussion featuring experts from VLI, Vale, and Cargill, moderated by Bernardo Vettorazzi, delved into the complexities of managing risk, ensuring compliance, and performing due diligence in dry bulk terminals. The speakers (left to right), Josire Paiva, Raul Pacheco and Luigi Viana shared their insights on the challenges and strategies inherent in these critical operations. 

 

Liquid bulk operations: challenges and risks  

The forum then explored the specific challenges and risks associated with liquid bulk operations, with contributions from leaders at Transpetro, Raizen, and Port Sudeste. Moderated by Nuno Vendeirinho, the speakers underscored the unique considerations and best practices in managing liquid bulk materials, emphasising the importance of safety and environmental stewardship.

 

Port operations and risk exposure: strategies for mitigation  

Another highlight was the panel discussion on port operations' exposure to risk and strategies for mitigation. Representatives from the Port of Santos, Port of Itaqui, Port of SUAPE, and Port Sudeste, moderated by Bernardo Vettorazzi, offered a deep dive into how ports manage and mitigate operational risks, highlighting the role of compliance, risk, and governance in ensuring safe and efficient port operations. 

 

The role of navigation in the maritime sector  

Dino Antunes Dias Batista eloquently addressed the significance of navigation and information for the maritime sector from MPOR. His insights into the critical role of navigation and waterway access provided a broader understanding of its impact on maritime trade and logistics. 

 

Towards decarbonisation: emissions management, digitisation, and transparency 

Jon Lane, Head of Sustainability at RightShip, shared his expertise on managing emissions and the path towards decarbonisation. His session emphasised the importance of data, digitalisation, and transparency in achieving sustainable maritime operations. 

 

Decarbonisation trends and strategies in the port sector  

The day concluded with a forward-looking discussion on decarbonisation trends and strategies within the port sector. Speakers from Port Sudeste, Port of Itaqui, Port of Parana, and Port of Açu, moderated by Uira Cavalcante from ANTAQ, shed light on the initiatives and strategies ports are adopting to reduce their carbon footprint and embrace sustainability.
