RightShip is proud to announce that Katradis Group has joined the Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program, marking another milestone in our shared mission to promote safer, more sustainable maritime operations worldwide.
With nearly nine decades of innovation and expertise, Katradis brings a proven legacy of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility to the program — strengthening our collective efforts to eliminate harm across the maritime industry.
Founded in 1936, Katradis Group has long been recognised as a trusted manufacturer and supplier of synthetic mooring ropes, wire ropes, sacrificial anodes, anchors, chains, and other essential marine equipment. Operating across major global ports — including in Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East — Katradis is dedicated to supporting safe operations through products that meet the highest international standards and enhance vessel performance.
Their inclusion in the Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program reflects a continued drive to set new benchmarks for maritime safety and environmental protection.
At the forefront of Katradis’s contribution to the program are two groundbreaking product lines: RSB (Reduced Snap Back) mooring ropes and NIKA-Anodes Cadmium-free.
RSB Ropes — such as the Improved 24/12 RSB and NIKA-Siri S12 RSB — are engineered to dramatically reduce the dangerous snap-back effect that occurs when a mooring line parts. By integrating a special RSB member with distinct elongation properties, these ropes effectively restrain recoil energy, significantly lowering the risk of injury to crew members during mooring operations.
Meanwhile, NIKA-Anodes Cadmium-free deliver high-performance corrosion protection without the environmental toll of traditional zinc anodes. Developed in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens, these anodes eliminate toxic cadmium while maintaining — and even improving — protective efficiency, supporting a safer and greener maritime ecosystem.
The journey to developing safer mooring solutions was not without challenges. Katradis’s engineers had to overcome the immense kinetic forces released during line failure — finding a way to control energy dissipation without compromising strength or durability. Through rigorous testing, multiple design iterations, and adherence to international type-approval standards, the RSB rope series emerged as a reliable safeguard for crews and vessels alike.
Similarly, the cadmium-free anodes represent years of research and partnership with scientific institutions to create a product that delivers both environmental and operational benefits — demonstrating how sustainability and performance can go hand in hand.
By joining RightShip’s Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program, Katradis aims to extend its impact through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and co-development with like-minded maritime stakeholders. The partnership underscores Katradis’s commitment to continuous improvement and its dedication to fostering a maritime industry where zero harm — to people, assets, and the planet — is achievable.
Together, Katradis and RightShip are working to elevate global standards of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence, empowering maritime professionals with innovations that make every operation safer and more responsible.
The partnership between RightShip and Katradis sets the stage for a new era of maritime safety innovation — one where engineering excellence and environmental responsibility converge. As a Zero Harm Innovation Partner, Katradis exemplifies the kind of forward-thinking collaboration that will help the maritime industry chart a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable course for generations to come.
