Global Inspections activity map - October 2022 | Rightship

Written by Alt | Nov 7, 2022 1:00:00 PM

As of 3 October 2022, we have fully implemented the updated version of RISQ – the RightShip Inspection Ship Questionnaire.

Quarantine restrictions at Chinese ports continue to drive the need for ship managers to plan for inspections in alternate ports and as a result we saw most inspections taking place in Singapore during October 2022.

South Korea, Australia, the United States and India have also all seen more applications along with gradual increases in Spain, Germany and Brazil. Japan and South Korea inspection numbers remain steady when compared to the previous month.

Inspections at Chinese shipyards where attendance can be arranged also remain strong, but often come with additional testing and enforced pre- and post-inspection quarantine for the inspector. Global easing of restrictions has made travel more convenient to Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. We’re continuing to expand our trained and accredited inspector base in locations with current and future higher demand.

Operation status - RightShip inspection

Ideally, inspections should be carried out at discharge ports or anchorages. This is to minimise risk for crew through inspections, as crew are less pressured to accommodate inspections while performing other operations. While not recommended, inspection requests while in dry dock are being accepted where there are no alternatives, to support managers. Ship operators should also be aware that the number of non-conformances will likely be higher when the ship is under repair, as normal shipboard routines will have been interrupted.

Plan for RightShip inspection

It is recommended that RightShip inspections are requested early to prevent unforeseen difficulties for inspector placement due to varied impediments, such as weather, local government restrictions. Once a scheduled inspection is planned, we ask that owners and managers try to refrain from last minute cancellation, as our inspectors will already be committed to attending the vessel. Requests at short notice for last minute inspections may limited due to availability.

A proactive vessel operator will plan and not delay the inspection to the last minute and will use the RightShip Inspection Ship Questionnaire (RISQ) to ensure the vessel is ready in all respects. It is also crucial to prepare ahead and discuss the vessel's forward itinerary with the RightShip Inspections team, so they can investigate all available options. The RightShip team can be contacted at dryinspections@rightship.com or you can read more on our vessel inspection page.

Note: Masters have tried to manipulate the outcomes of inspection results towards the end of the inspection hence RightShip Inspectors will report any cases of attempted coercion or attempts to manipulate Inspection outcomes.
