Job Details

As leading maritime safety and environmental experts, RightShip has an ambitious vision to expand its influence in safety, sustainability and crew welfare using the best new innovation, digitalization and data-focused solutions.  

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Head of APAC will design, lead and execute customer and key stakeholder engagement strategies to build strategic relationship and drive growth across the business.

The Head of APAC will implement and shape new business initiatives to provide growth opportunities by adapting to the competitive environment, market changes and opportunities. This includes maintaining strategic relationships with key accounts and stakeholders and ensuring strategic contacts and key accounts are identified and supported. Additionally, you will assist, in collaboration with the Product and Operations team, in the design and implementation of existing products and new service needs and formulate and negotiate commercial arrangements.

The Head of APAC is responsible for building a stakeholder engagement capability within an evolving organisation, raising our sales performance and contributing to our wider business success and impact. You will provide strong, proactive leadership to create and maintain a positive business climate that motivates employees.

Major Responsibilities

STRATEGY

  • Develop and implement a customer and stakeholder engagement strategy and tactical plan
  • Identify priority growth areas and help develop and implement business plans, ensuring alignment with RightShip’s strategy
  • Identify competitors and market opportunities and work with Chief Product Officer to develop and sell products and services
  • Identify and target growth markets and lead overall new market entry strategies
  • Develop communications for RightShip’s new business strategy to management, staff, customers and other key stakeholders.
  • Set short and medium term business objectives with the Chief Commercial Officer and be responsible for the implementation and attainment of the agreed plan

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Drive the growth of the business in customer numbers and revenue
  • Explore opportunities to provide scale to RightShip
  • Manage commercial negotiation of fees and other commercial terms
  • Drive customer satisfaction by ensuring appropriate handovers of customers between departments like sales, client management, issue escalation and resolution
  • Interact with current and prospective consumers to relay the product’s value and benefits and gather direct feedback
  • Provide quality and consistent liaison with non-customers (Owners / managers etc)

MARKETING

  • Build and maintain strategic business partnerships with key stakeholders including regulators, government agencies, industry associations and customers to maintain and improve RightShip’s image and position as a ‘force for good’
  • Market RightShip’s offerings by participating in industry conferences, interviews and other networking opportunities
  • Expand RightShip’s presence and influence in the region by marketing to existing and new customers

LEADERSHIP

  • Connect with other RightShip operations teams across the globe to build and share IP to ensure the efficiency of local operations
  • Embed RightShip’s values into everything we do
  • Lead, coach and develop and support the Regional Sales team. Ensure a safe and inclusive workplace which engages its employees
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Regional Sales team to ensure department goals are met

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Significant commercial experience with external stakeholders in the maritime industry, with a proven record of customer acquisition and revenue growth
  • Proven track record in new business and scale up operations
  • Experience in managing a Regional Sales team across multiple geographies
  • Experience in working in or with charterers, ports & terminals or ship owner domains. Ideally has a strong network in these areas
  • Keen appreciation of technology in the maritime sector is a plus
  • Shore based employment in a management capacity directly involved with the day to day technical and/or cargo operations of dry bulk and tanker shipping is preferred but not mandatory
  • Master Mariner or Chief Engineer and have sailed in a senior capacity (Master/Chief Engineer/Mate) on International Trading Dry Carriers and Tankers for between 3-5 years is advantageous
  • Beneficial to have sat and passed the Charter Institute of Shipbrokers or Charter Institute of Transport examinations to be effective and knowledgeable when dealing with Traders and Charterers
  • Ability to forge new relationships and credibility quickly and effectively
  • Proven ability to develop, manage and engage a high performing global team, working across time zones, cultures and borders to effectively lead culturally diverse teams in a global setting
  • A personal commitment to improved safety and environmental sustainability of the maritime industry
